Building a pump specification
A spec that vendors can price
A useful pump specification has eight fields: duty (flow and head), liquid and its SG, temperature, wetted material, sealing arrangement, motor, and the design standard. Missing any one of them means a quote that is wrong or padded with margin. The builder assembles all eight from your inputs and computes the power and motor automatically.
The result is a preliminary datasheet for enquiry — marked as such — so vendors quote the same pump, and you compare like with like.
Material and seal decisions
The wetted material follows the compatibility matrix: HCl points to PTFE or PFA, caustic accepts PP, clean water allows SS316. Sealing follows the same logic — magnetic drive for zero-leakage hazardous duty, PTFE bellows for hot acids, SiC/SiC with EPDM for hypochlorite.
